In less than a month, we will know the field for the Golden Tee 2016 World Championship. Seeding won’t take place until February, but the full picture is starting to come into focus.
We already know two participants: Andy Haas and Mark Stenmark, two of the favorites to win the whole thing, booked their tickets with wins at live events. Now we’re waiting on the rest of the field to come together from qualifier—which is being played on the Daily Contest. The final day of qualifying is January 15.
Because Stenmark is not listed in the current qualifier—and Haas is currently No. 1—the cutoff on the World Championship Leaderboard is now at 31 names. If you make it in this top 31 (with the exception of Stenmark), you’re in.
Here is the Top 31 as of December 18.
The competition for the final few spots will be riveting. And with more than $60,000 in prizes up for grabs—including a $10,000 top prize—this will likely go down to the very end. Once we have our field, we will use the World Rankings to seed players throughout the month of February.
And once that is complete, it will be time to put it all on the line: The Golden Tee 2016 World Championship will take place at the Las Vegas Convention Center in Las Vegas, Nevada on March 16 and 17. At that point, a new champion will be crowned.
We should have a fun announcement for participants in the coming weeks. We will also have a full itinerary of events once the qualifier has ended.
But there is still ample time for things to change—for players off the radar to change that conversation entirely.
The home stretch is here. The tournament field is taking shape.
