Course Caddy: Pelican Grove No. 2
There’s an Eagle to be Had, but is it Worth the Risk?

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Pelican Grove: Hole No. 2:

There’s nothing wrong with birdie, and that’s an important item to stress on a hole that can be eagled with a bit of regularity.

Despite the enormous blockade of trees standing directly between you and the flag, Hole No. 2 on Pelican Grove can be driven. As seen here, it can be more than driven.

Given the right wind and setup it can be done, and the use of Golden Tees can also come in handy with the driver. But this shot also comes with a fair amount of risk, and there’s not necessarily a perfect science.

End up far enough left in the rough and your tee shot could be out of bounds. From that point you will be asked to re-tee and the exploding scorecard scenario could come early. We’d like to avoid that for as long as we can.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with laying up in the fairway. Ensure that you stay short of the water and hopefully short of the sand trap if possible. From there you’ll have a manageable iron or fairway wood followed by a putt that shouldn’t have any surprises.

Is this risk worth taking? It depends on your comfort level, but there’s nothing wrong with this approach.
