The Best Long-Distance Shooter in the World
We sat down with the 2024 Mobile World Champion Rick Copithorne
In 2020, amid the global lockdown caused by the Covid-19 pandemic, Rick Copithorne, also known as SwiperSniper, sought a new way to occupy his time and discovered Golden Tee Mobile. With his background in arcade gaming, Rick was already familiar with Golden Tee’s mechanics and classic courses, leading to the birth of a new hobby.
From the start, Rick demonstrated remarkable skill, consistently finishing at the top of competitions. This early success fueled his ambition to advance further in his Golden Tee Mobile career.
At the 2022 Golden Tee Mobile Worlds, Chad Schrump dubbed Rick Copithorne "the best long-distance shooter in the world," a title Rick validated through his performance. Notably, Rick was not relying on the widely popular sniper stinger shot. Instead, he played with finesse and instinct, compensating for his lack of a perfected stinger shot by pursuing hole-outs on par 4s. His strategy paid off as he ended three consecutive games with hole-outs.
Rick Sniped hole 18 against Matthew Hanson while they were tied to win the first game.  His next game would be against Lance Harris and again he sniped hole 18 to take any hopes of overtime away from one of the world's best mobile players.  Right after this shot the voice of Golden Tee, Chad Schrump, dubbed Rick "The best long-distance shooter in the world!"  His third consecutive hole out came in overtime against a vengeful Lance Harris.  The game would go to extra holes, but Rick would yet snipe his was to victory on the second hole.  His efforts had earned him a World Championship title.

Moving to the 2023 Golden Tee Mobile World Championships at the FSW Arena, Rick returned from a short break after his previous victory. Unfortunately, this hiatus had negatively impacted his long game, making his swipes uncomfortable.
Rick admitted, “The feel of my original swipe was no longer comfortable.” Despite developing new swiping techniques, he struggled during the tournament, second-guessing his moves and eventually finishing in the lower half of the 32-player field.
However, a true champion is defined by how they overcome setbacks. Rick dedicated the next year to refining his skills and reclaiming his dominance. He qualified for the 2024 Golden Tee Mobile World Championships, aiming to capture the top prize of $10,000.
In the tournament’s first round, Rick defeated Chris Brown, but faced a setback against MuntzBeatz, losing with a -25 to Nelson Wade's -28, and was relegated to the losers bracket. Rick battled his way through the losers bracket, defeating competitors like Lance Martin, Rus Lyons, Riley Hitchcock, and Dave Pruski. He reached the losers finals where he faced Nelson Wade again, delivering a phenomenal -33 on Mayfield to MuntzBeatz’s -30 and advancing to the grand finals.
In the finals, Rick squared off against Matthew Hanson, who had been on a remarkable run. Despite Hanson's impressive performance, Rick triumphed in back-to-back games, earning his second world champion title.
Rick reflected on his victory, stating, “What an experience it was! The venue was perfect. Overall, I think I brought my A game and got lucky along the way to dodge some questionable matchups while making high-pressure shots. The competition was strong, and I happened to win the coin flips.”

Based out of Las Vegas and working as a dentist, Rick’s success at the 2024 World Championships was noteworthy. He shared his plans to celebrate by attending a George Strait and Chris Stapleton concert in Chicago, having just booked flights for the event.
Outside of Golden Tee Mobile, Rick enjoys spending time with his son, Tripp, and indulges in outdoor activities such as water skiing, golf, and fishing. He sets an annual goal to undertake a new adventure. Rick’s humility and excellence make him a remarkable person, and everyone wishes him continued success in all his endeavors.
