Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.
We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!
How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.
All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.
Shady Acres Hole No. 12
If you’re searching for some sort of secret, shorter path to the green, don’t bother. There is none.
Hole 12 on Shady Acres is as straightforward as Golden Tee par-5s come, although the path from tee to green is anything but. The sharp left-hand turn that comes in the middle of this hole makes the blueprint for conquering this design simple in nature.
Put it out in the fairway—as far as possible without going into the rough—and then be on point with your approach. Easy right? Well, not exactly.
To ensure that you can get around the trees on the left with your second shot, distance is crucial here. And while distance matters, so does placement. Avoiding the bunker and staying as far right as you possible can (without trickling into the rough) is how this should be tackled.
Of course, even if you find the rough, you’re not done yet. It’ll take a favorable wind and pin to work, but it can be done.
In most instances, however, you’ll be left with a lengthy shot to the green that will require some cut on the trackball. With water all along on the right, your strategy here should be clear: if you’re going to miss the green, miss left.
It’s simple. You don’t want to—no, can’t—end up with a penalty shot. A birdie on a hole like this won’t kill you, and that’s the worst you should walk to the next tee with if you play it safe enough.
And if you are able to put it altogether, perhaps that double eagle can come into the picture. Although Hole 12 is one of the least YouTubed holes in update, these shots do occur.
Play for the eagle and fallback on the birdie if it doesn’t happen. There are worse Golden Tee positions to be in.
