Tim Juhas - Lil' Gun Champion
Persistence Pays Off

Tim Juhas’ Golden Tee journey began in 2007 when he started managing a local bar just outside New Orleans in Metairie, Louisiana. It was there that a friend, Butch Cooper, introduced him to the game and showed him the ropes. What started as a casual bar game quickly grew into something much more.

Tim was drawn to Golden Tee’s competitive nature and, just as importantly, its welcoming community. He didn’t truly grasp how large that community was until attending his first tournament in Orlando in 2021. That experience hooked him instantly. Determined to improve and meet more players, Tim began running online tournaments, which helped him build connections and familiarity when he attended live events.

After watching his friend Ben Furlan win the Silver Bracket at the 2019 World Championships, Tim realized Golden Tee was more than just showing up at a bar to play 18 holes. He sought out like-minded players in Louisiana—including David Key, Connor and Craig Franta—who shared his desire to improve while still having fun.

2025 marked a major turning point. It was Tim’s first year qualifying for a Top Gun/Lil Gun Player of the Year tournament. Prior to that, he had never attended more than two tournaments in a single year. After making his first-ever Main Bracket appearance in Orlando earlier in 2025, Tim told his wife he wanted to attend four tournaments and earn a spot in the Player of the Year event in Dallas.

Before Dallas, Tim had never won more than three matches at any PEGT tournament. But he put in countless practice rounds and preparation leading up to the event. The weekend before Dallas, he hosted a “Pre-Dallas Warmup Tournament” with local players and played lights-out, winning the event and boosting his confidence to an all-time high.

That confidence carried into the Texas Holiday Classic. Tim posted his best qualifier performance to date, finishing 11th overall for just his second Main Bracket appearance. He also won the Ultra Hole-in-One pot on Hole 3 of the final course, Gunnison Gap. Saturday night featured two overtime matches—one win and one loss—sending him into an early Sunday morning matchup with Andy Haas in the Loser’s Bracket. Despite a strong showing, Tim came up two strokes short and shifted his focus to the Lil Gun tournament.

Opening against Matt Howard, Tim edged out a tight -28 to -27 victory. He followed that up with another close win against Solomon Franco—an opponent he had never beaten before. With each victory, Tim’s confidence grew. By the quarterfinals, he felt he could beat anyone.

Next came a matchup with close friend and fellow Louisianan Keith Bennett, which Tim won after another solid round. Waiting after that was Danny Scurlock. Their match stayed tight until Tim pulled away on Hole 18 to secure his spot in the finals.

“I didn’t care who I was playing,” Tim said. “I knew deep down I was going to win this tournament.”

His final opponent was yet another friend, Blake Boyett. Tim capitalized early as Blake made a few mistakes, building a four-stroke lead on the front nine and cruising to victory. Even now, the reality of winning a PEGT tournament—and already qualifying for Worlds—hasn’t fully sunk in.

“This victory means the world to me,” Tim shared. “I always felt like I was labeled as a decent player who couldn’t quite get over the top.”

Proving that he could not only compete but win has reignited Tim’s passion for improvement. The outpouring of support from friends and family—both in Dallas and across the country—has been overwhelming. After navigating significant personal challenges over the past three years, this moment came exactly when he needed it.

The future is bright for Tim Juhas and Golden Tee. He continues to run online tournaments and plans to attend as many PEGT events as possible. His wife and son will attend their first tournament at the Florida Open this February, giving them the opportunity to see firsthand how much the game and its community mean to him. With his family’s support and his confidence at an all-time high, Tim looks forward to continued growth—and helping bring even more players into the Golden Tee community.
