Golden Tee fans witnessed history in Missouri as Andy Haas captured his 20th career win on the National Golden Tee Tour presented by Power Events. Already a legend in the game, Haas has now cemented himself as the winningest player in the tour’s history, surpassing longtime leader Mark Stenmark and further solidifying his place among the all-time greats.

Over the past twelve years, Haas has built a staggering resume on the National Golden Tee Tour formerly known as Power Events Golden Tee Tour: 17 major wins, and 3 Top Gun/Player of the Year titles. Haas has also won two World Championships in 2008 and 2016. In 2024, he set a new benchmark by becoming the first player to win four tour events for the second time in a single season, the first happening in 2022. Haas  Names like Steve Sobe, Ryan Bourgeois, and Mark Stenmark are often mentioned when discussing Golden Tee’s elite, and Haas continues to add to that legacy.

But what did it feel like to notch win number 20?

“I didn’t realize in the moment that this was win number 20,” Haas admitted, “but once I realized it, it definitely made the win extra special.”

When reflecting on what has separated him from the field over the past decade, Haas pointed to one major shift in mindset.

“Once Golden Tee ceased to be my sole source of income about 10 years ago, every minute I put in on a Golden Tee machine is geared towards making myself better for live events. They are my sole focus,” he said. “I'm not worried about daily contests, money shot, or anything else. No edge is too small. Minor club or ball changes can be the difference between a win and a loss. So, having enough reps to grind out those smallest of edges can pay large dividends.”

That intense preparation has paid off in countless tournaments. But which win was the hardest to get?

“My first instinct would be to say the Dallas tournament is the toughest because it typically has the strongest field,” Haas said, “but the Wisconsin Open is actually the one stop I’ve never won.”

At the Missouri Open, Haas had to go through another Golden Tee legend in Evan Gossett to secure the milestone victory. With two chances to win one game, Haas took an aggressive approach.

“I went full send on the chip on hole 15, which I ended up watering,” he said. “When you have that crutch of the extra game to fall back on, it allows you to be very aggressive and play carefree.”

The Missouri win edged him just ahead of Stenmark in career tour victories, who is a player Haas holds deep respect for.

“Mark was the toughest opponent I’ve ever faced,” he said. “Although I managed about a .500 record against him, there was no one else who had my number over an extended period of time quite like Stenmark. I'm absolutely devastated that he's no longer with us, and I look back with great fondness all the opportunities that we had to compete with each other.”

Despite the accolades and the records, Haas continues to evolve his game — and the newer generation of players keeps him on his toes.

“I learned quite a long time ago that if you're not constantly evolving, you're going to be left behind,” Haas mentioned. “Over the years I added the no-pullback palm shove, the chush, and most recently the click chip, anything that I see that can gain me the slightest edge, I'm going to pursue.” Haas finished by giving more insight into the evolving game, “While I may be opposed to some techniques or some equipment in principle, it's important to set those feelings aside and have tunnel vision on doing whatever it takes to give yourself the best possible chance to win.”

So, what keeps Andy Haas coming back?

“There’s nothing in my daily life that compares to the feeling I get teeing off in the first match on Sunday,” Haas said. “If I'm able to work my way through the bracket and prevail, that feeling of accomplishment is one of which I'm quite sure I'll never tire.”

Of all the messages, videos, or pictures you’ve received since win 20, has there been one that really stood out or meant something personal to you?

“Since my son has gotten into the game, FaceTiming him after a win — that’s about as good as it gets,” he said.

When asked about possible future goals, Andy brought his veteran vision for the future and history.

“I went on record saying I didn't think anyone could double dip Dallas/POTY, and then Mark Stenmark did it in 2014 and I did it in 2015. Since then, no one has. I had about as good of a year in 2022 as could be hoped for (4 wins & POTY), and I'm not sure it's possible to improve on that.”

As for what’s next, Haas still has one goal in mind: a third World Championship.

“I haven’t won Worlds since 2016,” he said. “Until I do, that will be my sole focus.”

And yes, we couldn’t end this interview without mentioning that jaw-dropping Tour Mode performance at Sequoia Grove, where he shot -138 across five games.

“If I could give any advice for Tour Mode, especially on older, tougher courses like Sequoia, it’s to play a few practice rounds beforehand,” Haas said. “That familiarity makes a massive difference. I would not have come close to the score I did on Sequoia had I not played those practice games prior to playing Tour Mode.

With 20 wins and counting, Andy Haas isn’t just setting records, he’s continuing to raise the bar! Whether you're a newcomer or a longtime fan, one thing is clear: the Golden Tee GOAT is still going strong.
