It’s been a glorious week for Golden Tee. 2018 was released on Tuesday in record-breaking fashion and over 10,000 players have already played at least one game on the new courses.
The excitement will continue next week with another few thousands updates getting installed across the country. Next week also marks the next Power Events’ Golden Tee tournament, the NIV in Richmond, Virginia.
The NIV celebrates its 15th anniversary this year. The Not in Vegas tournament started in 2002. It offered a for players who didn’t qualify for IT's Las Vegas tournament, to showcase their skills
The NIV was the brian-child of Jeffrey Allums, owner of the Baja Bean Co, who most golfers now know as “Jefe.” This year also marks Jefe’s 50th birthday and you can best believe that he will be celebrated all throughout next weekend!
The tournament weekend gets kicked off on Thursday, October 5th with a Closest-to-the-Pin event and a best two-out-of-three Money Shot event starting around 7:30 p.m.. The entry fee for both events is $10 each and they will be double-elimination.
On Friday, focus will shift to the handicap tournament. It will begin roughly at 7:30 p.m. and be single-elimination. Entry is $25, and you must have a valid GT handicap to enter. Players who finish in the top 25 percent of the handicap tournament will win their entry into the tournament’s main event on Saturday! As a thank you to the players, Baja Bean will be offering FREE beer all Friday night (yes we said FREE)!
The NIV main event will begin at Noon on Saturday. Tournament entry is $125 this tournament, with an additional hole-in-one side pot that costs $20 to enter. Part of the extra $25 cost for the NIV tournament is for the FREE lunches being offered for all participants on Saturday and Sunday. We will be sure to share wonderful pictures of the smoked pig that will be served!
On Sunday, double-elimination match play will decide the winners of both Gold and purple brackets as we work to crown the 2017 NIV 15 Champion!
With this being the first tournament on the new 2018 courses, you have to wonder how many players will step up to the challenge and challenge for one of the oldest titles in Golden Tee tournament history! We hope to see you in Virginia next weekend!
