COURSE CADDIES :: Pelican Grove :: Hole 12 :: PAR 3

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Pelican Grove No. 12

And so we’ve reached the Design-a-Hole winner, a hole that doesn't look like a giant on paper: avoid the trees, hit it on the green, make your putt and move on, right?

Right, only sometimes this hole won’t be that easy.

For whatever reason, the ball doesn’t travel particularly well. Add in the slightly elevated green, and Hole 12 has all the makings for a quiet killer. You need to it harder than you think, but not too hard to overshoot you the green.

Chances are you won’t go in the hazard, although that can happen if you are really off. The likely miss, however, is a chip off the green and a par, something you’d also like to avoid. This is where you can bleed away strokes, which is something we'd like to avoid.

Bite is a wonderful option on this design, and getting your ball to stick is much more important than getting it to spin.

Unless the wind and flag setup perfectly, this is a birdie hole.

Don’t be overly aggressive, and be sure to give yourself a manageable putt. The green is flat, which means you’re likely to make most anything that lands on the short stuff.

Now all you have to do is accomplish that, or the next best thing.
