COURSE CADDIES :: Pelican Grove :: Hole 11 :: PAR 4

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Pelican Grove Hole No. 11

A familiar trend on Pelican Grove continues on Hole 11, and let’s addresses this early on. With the right wind, tee box and equipment, this par-4 can be driven. Yes, really.

The notion of such feats might seem impossible—and it is from many tee boxes—but it can be done.

Here’s proof.

Unless the setup is perfect and you’re feeling lucky, however, don’t try it. Birdie will do just fine, thank you.

Instead, you’ll want to place your ball in the fairway and you have multiple options with how you can approach this.

With trees directly in front of the fairway, you can go around them to the left or right. Going left—which is probably idea for a better approach shot—also comes with risk. If you’re going to cut the ball around to the fairway, be sure you cut it enough to avoid the hazard. Overcut it if you have to, just don’t lose a stroke.

Going right is the option as well. While the risk on the shot is much less, the approach can be more challenging. Distance control here is a must.

And regardless of which path you take, be mindful of your spin on the green. Because the green is sloped down significantly, backspin will likely be too much. These are the shots bite was made for.
