Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.
We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!
How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.
All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.
Turtle Island Hole No. 1
Welcome to paradise. Clear skies, clearer water and sun. That’s what Turtle Island brings—plus a little bit of lava—although we’ll get to that in time.
Hole 1 is a lot like the Hole 1s you’re accustomed to seeing. The only item to worry about on your tee shot is the sand trap just right of the fairway, and there’s no reason you should play your drive close to this. Aim for the center, and you’re all but set for your next shot.
That next shot—your approach—allows you a moment to be aggressive. The green is flat, the wind is minimal and you should adjust this shot based on pin location.
If it’s near the front or middle part of the green, use backspin.
If the pin is tucked near the back, attacking it with no spin—or even roll—is a strategy that is worth attempting.
Very few designs in the game allow you to take chances with little consequence, although this is one of those chances. And if the eagle doesn’t fall, you’ll likely be left with a manageable birdie putt. And that’s what it’s all about.
