COURSE CADDIES :: Greek Hills :: Hole 8 :: PAR 4

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Greek Hills Hole No. 8

The final par-5 on the Greek Hills front is one you need to take advantage of, plain and simple.

It’s not a layup eagle by any means—with plenty of items to address—but it’s a design that can be conquered without having to be overly aggressive, which is a rarity in the game.

Off the tee, you have two options. You can play for the bulge in the fairway beyond the enormous sand trap, or you can hit a huge C-3-type shot around the trees blocking the tee box and get much closer to the pin.

Let’s start with the simple, safe way to play this hole, and the one you should be attempting more times than not. By staying back, you’re making your second shot much longer—likely a 3-wood or driver into the green—although at least you’re guaranteed a shot at it.

As seen here, there’s nothing wrong whatsoever with playing safe. Your second shot will be just fine.

The other option (if the setup calls for it) is to play aggressive off the tee. With sand in front and water deep, however, this shot should only be attempted if you’re comfortable with the attempt. While it can lead to a much shorter, more manageable second shot, it can also take eagle out of play entirely.

If the tee shot works out, however, you have the opportunity to get aggressive with shot No. 2.

The name of the game—regardless of how you play—is to stay in the fairway and get on the green with a manageable putt for eagle. Depending on the setup, there will be various ways to accomplish this. And you’ll be setup to go into the turn with some momentum.
