COURSE CADDIES :: Shady Acres :: Hole 13 :: PAR 3

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Shady Acres Hole No. 13

“Just give me a putt.”

This famous golf lingo is typically overused and often times misused. In the instance of Hole 13, however, this safe approach most certainly applies.

The first of two par-3s on the back doesn’t feature any hazards. Unless something really goes wrong, this won’t be the spot for that dreaded seven or higher. But walking away with birdie isn’t a given, and the shape of the green—along with the wind—will make this a bit of a nail-bitter round to round.

A lot of your approach here will depend on what clubs you use, and the difference here is crucial. If you’re using a fairway wood, then you have to mindful of spin and, more specifically, not spinning off the front of the green.

If the wind is in your face, the shot becomes a bit more complicated. You can attack it with no spin at all, although the landing area is small. Regardless of conditions, Bite seems like a very desirable option with a little loft to work with.

If you’re approaching this hole with an iron or hybrid, you have even more options. Of course, getting up and over the bank and on the green should be priority No. 1. From there, both Bite and Backspin should be considered potential options.

Your strategy is going to vary here, and perhaps that’s what makes this design so interesting each time through. While your strategies will vary, the overall goal should not.

Just give yourself a putt.

What works for you here?
