COURSE CADDIES :: Shady Acres :: Hole 6 :: PAR 4

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Shady Acres Hole No. 6

It starts with a decision, as it usually does. On No. 6 at Shady Acres, however, the path taken will vary from setup to setup.

There’s nothing all that concerning about this two-shot par-4. You can go to a left or right fairway, both of which are a legitimate option. From there, you’ll have an approach shot that doesn’t present a ton of issues, either. The stream that runs alongside the hole can be a findable hazard if your shot sails left or long, but that is easily avoided.

Deciding on left or right should be largely dependent on the wind. If either path can provide a more favorable approach, this is the path you should take.

Going left will likely be the more popular method. Get it out beyond the grouping of trees in the middle but not too far to bring the water into play. From there you’ll likely have a comfortable iron and a fairway wood into the hole and Bite will be a great way to get it close.

Want to go right? Sure. You can do that as well. Keeping your ball away from the trees tucked on the right is important, because this is the only obstacle that can stand between you and the pin. You’d like to avoid hitting it in the sand—to maximize your spin if you need it—but ending up in the bunker isn’t the worst thing.

In a perfect world, however, you’ll be hitting from the fairway with a nice opportunity to be aggressive.

If the setup calls for it, you might not need any spin at all.

How you play should come down to what shots you feel comfortable with. But rarely are there holes with two reasonable shots at the hole on almost any setup. That’s what we have here.

Which way do you play?
