COURSE CADDIES :: Shady Acres :: Hole 2 :: PAR 4

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Shady Acres No. 2

The two images above paint a picture. And the blimp view at the top of the story accurately encompasses just how nestled in forest Hole No. 2 really is.

It’s not like you’ll have to hit big hooks to get from tee to green, so the trees on the outside shouldn’t really come into play. The trees surrounding the green—particularly the front left side—is a different story.

If the pin is anywhere near the center or the right side, the approach will be rather simple: hit it in the fairway, knock it on the green, make a flat putt and move onto the next hole. Maybe, just maybe, you’ll come away with a different result.

If the pin is tucked in the back left portion of the green, however, the trees might become a factor.

Have no fear; there are ways to tackle this setup.

Of course, hitting your ball in the center of the green is always an option. The green is flat, the putt won’t be long and you’ll make it the majority of the time. You can also cut the ball slightly, bringing it in from right to left, using bite to get it to spin closer to home. Both of these will work just fine.

And yes, you can even pretend the trees aren’t there. It may sound strange, but your ball will still likely make it to the short stuff. Spin here can be a concern, although the shot certainly works with a little extra club.

With it, the ol’ leaves-dunk scenario remains possible.

What works for you here? Play is safe in the middle or blast it right through?
