COURSE CADDIES :: Pelican Grove :: Hole 16 :: PAR 3

Welcome to the Course Caddy, a look at each and every hole in Golden Tee 2014. Over the next few months, we will spend each day looking at a different design, starting with Hole 1 on the first course and ending with the final hole on the final design.

We want—no, NEED—your help in this process!

How do you play a particular design? Share your thoughts on strategy and YouTube uploads in the comment section. Your feedback is integral in the complete understanding of the design.

All holes will then be available for reference on the Course Caddy page—a bookmark must for the entire encyclopedia! Enjoy.

Pelican Grove No. 16

The body of water that guards this green can’t be more than a yard wide. Yet, even in its small geographic presence, the stream on this par-3 is one of the more diabolical hazards on the course.

It’s simple, really. Don’t go in the stream. You can’t. You shouldn’t. Just don’t. Make sure it doesn’t happen, even if it means you sacrifice a birdie in the process. Ideally that is not the case, but there are good and misses here. Guess which one short is?

The intense slope downward on the green makes this a difficult proposition, as does the monstrous wind you’re destined to see in one direction or another. If it’s with you, it’s not as bad. But if it’s a hard cross wind or in your face, distance control will become an issue.

Spin control is an even bigger issue, and you need to be careful with backspin. Better yet, make Bite your friend here, as the controlled spin backwards will work perfect if the pin is nestled at the bottom of the green.

If it’s at the top of the green, no spin at all will likely be your ideal approach.

Putting on this hole will be crucial, and the possibility of having severe break will be in play through most rounds. If you’re lucky, however, maybe you’ll be able to leave the putter in the bag.
