The 2015 Design-a-Hole Contest
Don’t Just Play Golden Tee, Become a Part of the Game’s Storied History

You love Golden Tee. After all, here you are.

But what if you could take this love and transform it into something more? What if you could go from passionate fan to Golden Tee designer? And what if—for your creative excellence—you could become the proud owner of your very own GT Home Edition? Or a Callaway Big Bertha Driver? Or a Golden Tee LIVE Gift Card?

Thanks to the 2015 Golden Tee Design-a-Hole Contest, these “what ifs” are a reality.

The Contest

Design any par-3, par-4 or par-5, submit it and this idea could go from concept to playable hole in Golden Tee 2015. This has been the theme of the Design-a-Hole Contest since its inception, and it remains the root of the event this year.

It can be a drawing, a sketch, a doodle on a cocktail napkin, a video, a 3D rendering, a slideshow, a diorama, a ransom note (yep, it’s happened) or anything else you believe would best outline your design. It doesn’t have to be a work of art, and you don’t have to be artist to get your design recognized. Creativity in your submission matters, but it's not everything.

All you need is an idea, a visual representation of your hole and a name that accurately encompasses what your design will bring to Golden Tee.

Have more than one idea? Wonderful. Submit as many designs as you please. The more the merrier.

The winning hole will immediately find a home in Golden Tee 2015. And on top of that, our winner will be able to play their living, breathing creation on their very own online Golden Tee Home Edition.

The Submission Process

Submit any par-3, par-4 or par-5 between March 1 and April 15 and you’ll be automatically included.

How do you submit your design? Well, there are two ways.

Your completed designs can be emailed to  design-a-hole@itsgames.com. With this email please include your name, hometown, contact number, the par for the given design and the name of the hole. All attachments will be accepted. Please try to use reasonable file sizes and common file types.

Want to mail your submission? Go for it. Send all hardcopies to the following address and it will be included in the contest.

The Judges

No one knows more about the proper construction of a Golden Tee hole than Golden Tee co-creator and course designer Jim Zielinski.

For more than 25 years, Zielinski has created virtual golf holes. He’s pushed the limits on what can be done, adjusted styles based off of equipment changes and modifications and somehow kept designs new and fresh.

For this particular contest, however, Zielinski—along with the rest of the Golden Tee design team—will ultimately decide which submissions are deemed worth for a spot in the finals. The judges will then assess feedback obtained across all Golden Tee platforms and ultimately decide which creation is worthy of a spot in Golden Tee 2015.

The Finals

Once the submission period has come to a close, we will reveal each finalist for this year’s contest on Goldentee.com along with the Golden Tee Facebook Page.

There is no predetermined amount of finalists that will be selected, and this group will depend greatly on the amount of submissions received. The judges will spend hours looking over each design to determine which will move on. Barring any changes to the schedule, the first finalist will be revealed on April 21.

At that point, your feedback will be crucial. Whether you decide to submit a design or not, you will play a role in deciding our winner. Comments, criticisms, likes and dislikes will be taken from our various social media outlets. We need your help!

Our judges will then use this feedback to help decide this year’s champion.

The Stakes

It’s simple, really. Don’t just play the game, play YOUR hole in the game. And if Golden Tee immortality wasn’t enough, our winner will also be able to play his or her design on their very own Golden Tee Home Edition (retail price $3,995). This grand prize will also come equipped with a year subscription of online play.

But that’s not all. Our runner-up will take home a brand-new Callaway Big Bertha Driver (retail $399), while third place will take home a $200 Golden Tee LIVE Gift Card.

And if you finals, you’re guaranteed a Golden Tee t-shirt and a $50 Golden Tee LIVE Gift Card.

The Final Word... For Now

How do you make your design both unique and feasible all at once? That is the most challenging aspect of the creation process, and the right answer could land you a spot in the game.

Don’t overthink your design. While shooting a golf ball off the top of a building or in a baseball stadium might sound fun—and it will certainly be different—the judges are looking for concepts that will fit in Golden Tee.

You know exactly what holes you like to play. Take your vast knowledge of the game to another level. Think about things like distances, elevation hazards and the small nuances that could separate your creation.

We’ll be exploring various tips and design ideas throughout the process, but start with what you already know and what you like to play. If you can put these ideas on a piece of paper, or in a computer program, or in a video, you could well be on your way to big things.

Be creative, but most importantly, have fun doing it.
